What’s Happening in LRC?

Posted March 22nd, 2012 by Susan Nottoli

1st Grade students – Students are learning how to use their first computer program, Microsoft Paint.  Paint is a great drawing program.  Students were introduced to the different tools they can use such as the paint bucket, pencil, and spray can.  Soon we will be drawing an “outside scene” using many of the tools that they have learned.  Students will also be typing a sentence to go along with their drawing.

2nd Grade Students – Students were assigned an animal to investigate.  They were taught how to do a Google search to gather two important facts about their animal.  They also saved and pasted a picture they found on the internet into the Paint program.  After, they drew a likeness of their animal using the tools in the Paint program.  All of these drawings were uploaded into a program called Photostory.  Each student did a voice recording of their sentence they wrote about their animal.  After, I created one fluid movie of all of their drawings and voice recordings.  These videos are available for viewing on the Library website.

3rd Grade –Students finished their first Kidspiration web and created a collage using the Tagxedo website.  (www.tagxedo.com)  This fun site allows students to make a large word collage on the screen.  The more times they type a word, the larger the word appears on the screen.  After typing, students have the option to make the collage into a different shape, color scheme, and layout.

This week students started a new project called “Weather Reporter”.  Students were given a weather topic and are working in teams to research, create video backgrounds and write a script.  We will be using the morning Production Studio and green screen technology to be actual weather reporters.  Students will create the WLNK Weather Center and will be reporting from all over the country.  One fluid broadcast will be created per classroom and these movies will be placed on the Link School Website for viewing.

4th Grade – Currently, we are working on our state research project.  Students picked one of the two states that they were assigned for the Great Mail Race to research.  Students will be creating State Brochures using the Microsoft Publisher Program.   They are using the Library wiki site to connect to reliable websites to find information about their state.  They have also been saving appropriate images that will be part of the brochure.  The goal is for each student to “sell their state”.

5th Grade students are currently finishing their Photostory Book Trailers of picture books from the Link Library inventory.  These book trailers will eventually be uploaded to school tube so they can be viewed online.  Students will also be building a wiki page for their books.  They needed to include information on their wiki about their author, theme, characters and setting.  Students will be watching each other’s book trailers and commenting on the wiki site about the project.

Recently, each student received a Glogster account and are going to create an online poster for their project.

6th Grade students are working hard on their memoirs using the Movie Maker program.  Most students are done writing their narration from questions they will answer include, their favorite hobby, sport, food, places they went on vacation or family memories, what they liked best about Link school and their hopes for their futures.

ALL PHOTOS ARE DUE!!    PLEASE BRING THEM IN ANY DAY OF THE WEEK

At the end of the school year each 6th grade student will have a CD burned for them of projects, files and this video for them to bring home.
